Today's Opportunities!

Once upon a time "renegade-ish" now more organized and celebrated "3rd Ward" is calling for new art.

Thehiredguns.com is a decent website with a lot of opportunities and events listed and updated often. A different approach to the "monster.com" type of site, a lot of interesting "creative" type jobs are listed here, including jobs in marketing and gaming.

Any comedians out there? Wakka wakka! Here's a chance for you to shine on stage and screen in the Sacramento Sketch Comedy Festival. As a youngin I used to dream of being on Saturday Night Live, but those dreams became bills that needed to be paid. Enough about my woes, though, get out there and make it happen!

See you next time, same place, new opportunities :)

A Few Friday Notes

Here is a casting opportunity of sorts for a hotel in Las Vegas seeking a "New York" style host. The character's name is "Vinnie", so we imagine a pre-requisite for this role is a talent for using PG expletives such as "joik".

Here's an opportunity for some young songwriters in Hamilton, NY, and upcoming showcase info. Who knew Hamilton had enough young singer songwriters to create a whole show? We do, now.

Nov. 17
EOH Youth Showcase of Singer Songwriters
Hamilton

Saturday, November 7, 8 pm: EOH Youth Showcase of Singer Songwriters Palace Theater, Hamilton, NY Come see the fabulous talent of Central New York young singer songwriters! All styles of music welcome! Are you a singer-songwriter under 22? Enter the Youth Showcase and compete for prizes that include a recording demo CD from Orbital Sound! Entry is 10/15/2009 (no fee) and guidelines can be found at www.earlvilleoperahouse.com $5 adult, $4 students.

Here's an interesting story about Bill Cosby and how he got his start doing stand-up. (Hint: It had something to do with telling jokes to...someone...somewhere.)

And finally, we are sorry to hear of Soupy Sales passing, as we always regret to hear performers and artists passing, because we love to be entertained. Everyone try to have a slice of pie in his honor this weekend.

See you on Monday.

STOCK PHOTOGRAPHY MODELS WANTED

This is a good opportunity to make a little extra money and possibly get some nice photos out of the deal. Stock photography models generally pose in various lifestyle scenarios and are paid to do so. Then, their images are sold to websites and companies to use as clip art or "stock" photos.

The pros of being a stock photography model include free pictures, extra cash, being able to call yourself a “professional model” on your resume.

The cons of being a stock photography model include being immortalized forever doing some mundane task (though if you ask us, the folks above look like they're having a pretty good time).

So if it seems to you like the pros outweigh the cons, you can learn more about it at sites like Simplefoto.com.

There are many more sites and companies that do this, as well. Good luck! And don't forget to check back with us daily for new tips and opportunities.

BUSINESS ADVICE FROM BIDDLE BARROWS
(from Wanda's Where and When mailing list)

From Madam to Maven: What Sydney Biddle Barrows Can Teach You About Business
sydney
Wednesday, October 21. 6:30 pm. $15 per person, includes wine & hors d'oeuvres.
RSVP required. Send an e-mail torsvpme09@yahoo.com to secure your space. Your name will be listed on the guest list and you can pay cash at the door.
Twenty years ago Sydney Biddle Barrows made headlines as the Mayflower Madam. As the blue blood brains behind a very lucrative New York City escort agency that catered to the wealthy and powerful, her good-girl-gone-bad story was even made into a movie starring Candice Bergen. Today, Barrows is a highly respected and in-demand business consultant who specializes in the Customer Experience.

Most successful people will tell you that one of the best ways to make it to the top is to model yourself after other successful people. Model yourself after a Madam, you ask yourself? Why not? It's not called The World's Oldest Profession for nothing! They've had centuries to test every conceivable marketing and selling idea, adapt to all kinds of challenges and changes, and devise innumerable, creative ways to cater to more niche and sub-niche markets than any other business.

When Barrows' first book, Mayflower Madam, was published, Fortune Magazine named it one of the Top Ten Business Books of the year. The book has also been on the required reading list at several prestigious MBA programs, including Harvard. Barrows has lectured at several colleges and universities, including some in the Ivy League, such as Brown and Columbia. She has been a popular speaker at countless events in the United States and abroad for many prestigious private clubs and business groups.
